Merry Christmas
Christmas Music and pictures
87.43 min
Christmas, also referred to as Christmas Day or Christmastide, is an annual holiday celebrated on December 25 that marks and honors the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. The birth of Jesus, which is the basis for the anno Domini system of dating, is thought to have occurred between 7 and 2 BC. December 25 is not thought to be Jesus' actual date of birth, and the date may have been chosen to correspond with either a Roman festival, or with the winter solstice.

Christmas Music - Watch free music video

Modern customs of the holiday include gift-giving, church celebrations, and the display of various decorations—including the Christmas tree, lights, mistletoe, nativity scenes and holly. Santa Claus (also referred to as Father Christmas, although the two figures have different origins) is a popular mythological figure often associated with bringing gifts at Christmas. Santa is generally believed to be the result of a syncretization between St. Nicholas of Myra and elements from pagan Nordic and Christian mythology, and his modern appearance is believed to have originated in 19th century media.

Christmas is celebrated throughout the Christian population, but is also celebrated by many non-Christians as a secular, cultural festival. The holiday is celebrated around the world. Because gift-giving and several other aspects of the holiday involve heightened economic activity among both Christians and non-Christians, Christmas has become a major event for many retailers.

Roy Hargrove - RH Factor - Best American jazz trumpeter

28.36 min
Roy A. Hargrove (born October 16, 1969) is an American jazz trumpeter and founding member of the RH factor.

Hargrove was born in Waco, Texas, and was discovered as a potential jazz talent when Wynton Marsalis (trumpet) visited his high school, Dallas's Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. One of influences was saxophone player David "Fathead" Newman, who played with the Ray Charles Band at Hargrove's junior high school. He was influenced by Freddie Hubbard, Fats Navarro, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, and Clifford Brown (all trumpet).

Hargrove spent one year (1988–1989) studying at Boston's Berklee College of Music, but could more often be found in New York City jam sessions, and finally transferred to New York’s The New School. His first recording in New York was with the saxophonist Bobby Watson. Shortly afterwards he made a recording with Superblue featuring Watson, Mulgrew Miller, and Kenny Washington. In 1990 he released his first solo album, Diamond in the Rough, on the Novus/RCA label, along with four other albums.

He signed a recording contract with Verve Records, which gave him the opportunity to record with some of the major jazz musicians on With the Tenors of Our Time, including Joe Henderson, Stanley Turrentine, Johnny Griffin, Joshua Redman, and Branford Marsalis. In 1993 he was commissioned by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and wrote The Love Suite: In Mahogany. Hargrove won a Grammy Award in 1998 for the album Habana with his Afro-Cuban band, Crisol.

Hargrove has recorded with a wide range of musicians, including: Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Michael Brecker, Jackie McLean, Slide Hampton, Gary Bartz, Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Abbey Lincoln, Diana Ross, Steve Tyrell, Kenny Rankin, John Mayer, Rhian Benson, Carmen McRae, Shirley Horn, Jimmy Smith, Danny Gatton, Method Man, Karriem Riggins, Common, Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Oscar Peterson, Gilles Peterson,Linda Ronstadt and Cleo Laine.

Hargrove is the leader of the progressive group The RH Factor, which combines elements of jazz, funk, hip-hop, soul, and gospel music.

John Lennons Jukebox - John Lennon music

48.02 min
Documentary about the songs on a jukebox owned by John Lennon.

Death
On December 8, 1980, The Lennons spent several hours at the studio on West 44th Street before returning to the Dakota at about 10:50 p.m. Lennon was concerned about seeing five-year-old Sean before he went to sleep, so they returned to the Dakota instead of going out to eat. They exited their limousine on 72nd Street, even though the car could have been driven into the courtyard. Jose Perdomo (who was the doorman at the entrance), an elevator operator, and a cab driver all saw Chapman standing in the shadows by the archway. The Lennons walked past, and Ono opened the inner door --- leaving Lennon alone inside the entrance. Chapman called out, "Mr. Lennon!" As Lennon paused to turn around, Chapman dropped into a "combat stance" and shot at Lennon five times with hollow point bullets from a Charter Arms .38 revolver. One shot missed, passing over Lennon's head and hitting a window of the Dakota building. Two shots struck Lennon in the left side of his back and two more in his left shoulder. All four wounds caused serious internal damage, and at least one of them fatally pierced Lennon's aorta.

Lennon staggered up six steps to the room at the end of the entrance used by the concierge, said, "I'm shot," and collapsed. Doorman Jay Hastings ran out from his inside office to assist Lennon and summoned the police, as Chapman calmly sat down on the sidewalk and waited. The doorman walked to Chapman and reportedly shouted, "Do you know what you've done?" before kicking the revolver across the sidewalk. Chapman calmly replied, "I just shot John Lennon."

John Winston Ono Lennon, (9 October 1940 -- 8 December 1980), was an English songwriter, singer, musician, graphic artist, author and peace activist who gained worldwide fame as one of the founders of The Beatles. Lennon and Paul McCartney formed a critically acclaimed and commercially successful partnership writing songs for The Beatles and other artists. Lennon, with his cynical edge and knack for introspection, and McCartney, with his storytelling optimism and gift for melody, complemented each other. In his solo career, Lennon wrote and recorded songs such as "Imagine" and "Give Peace a Chance".

Lennon revealed his rebellious nature and irreverent wit on television, in films such as A Hard Day's Night (1964), in books such as In His Own Write, and in press conferences and interviews. He channelled his fame and penchant for controversy into his work as a peace activist, artist, and author.

He had two sons, Julian, with his first wife Cynthia, and Sean, with his second wife, avant-garde artist Yoko Ono. Lennon was murdered by Mark David Chapman in New York City on 8 December 1980 as he and Ono returned home from a recording session.

In 2002, respondents to a BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Britons voted Lennon into eighth place. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Lennon number 38 on their list of "The Immortals: The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time" and ranked The Beatles at number 1.

John and Yoko's Year of Peace - John Lennon and Yoko Ono Video

51.23 min
JOHN & YOKO'S YEAR OF PEACE takes a look back at the summer of 1969 and the marriage of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Instead of going on a secluded honeymoon (which would have been swamped by reporters anyway), they decided to hold a year-long public honeymoon (or "bed-in") in their hotel bed to promote the idea of world peace. Included in this video is footage of John and Yoko in their pajamas meeting Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, media expert Marshall McLuhan, and the very antagonistic cartoonist Al Capp.

Imagine John Lennon - John Lennon songs

106 minutes
Imagine: John Lennon is a soundtrack album of popular music composed by John Lennon for the 1988 documentary film, Imagine: John Lennon. Originally released that year as a double album, it now remains available on one CD.

Bridging his two musical phases together, as a member of The Beatles and a solo artist, Imagine: John Lennon is a career-spanning collection of Lennon's many musical highlights. In addition there are a couple of heretofore unreleased recordings: an acoustic demo of "Real Love" taped in 1979 (an alternate recording of which would be finished by The Beatles for 1996' s Anthology 2) and a rehearsal take of "Imagine" in mid-1971 before the final take was captured. It also features for the first time a clean-intro version of A Day in the Life, that would appear later on the CD release of the The Beatles' 1967–1970 compilation.

Imagine: John Lennon, with its wealth of stock Lennon footage and self-narration, proved to be a well-received film and its soundtrack sold well in the US, reaching #31 and going gold. In the UK, the album peaked at #64.

The project arrived at a timely juncture and was successful in thwarting the then-released The Lives of John Lennon by Albert Goldman, a controversial and reputation-tarnishing book which many dismissed as fiction, including Ono and Lennon's close friends, as well as the remaining Beatles.
